2nd International Nuclear energy Congress is the second event of this type organised by the Warsaw University of Technology’s Research Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems.
The 1st International Nuclear Energy Congress was held on 23–24 May 2011 at the Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology. It was organised in collaboration with the Oregon State University, Paris Institute of Technology ParisTech and Polish-American Fulbright Commission, under honourable patronage of Prof Barbara Kudrycka, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland. Our initiative was also supported by Mr Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Prof Andrzej Kraszewski, Minister of Environment. Keynote speakers included Ms Hanna Trojanowska – Government’s Commissioner for Nuclear Power, Dr Sunil K. Khanna – Vice-Provost of the Oregon State University, Prof Andrzej Chmielewski, Chairman of the Council for Atomic Energy Matters, National Atomic Energy Agency. Other speeches were given by multiple scientists from Europe and America, representatives of leading nuclear industry companies and international organisations.
The 2nd International Nuclear Energy Congress focused on Nuclear Safety will be the fifth public and scientific event related to nuclear technologies organised or co-organised by our Research Centre. During each of such events dozens of speakers present state-of-the art nuclear technologies and other related topics to various groups of audience.
The idea to organise the Congress is directly related to the Polish energy policy. One of the targets of the Warsaw University of Technology – including the Research Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems – is to form groups of scientists and experts who could support development of the Polish nuclear power industry, and development of new energy conversion technologies. Construction of a nuclear industry in our country demands close collaboration between academic institutions, research establishments, industry, and public administration. This in turn requires creation of appropriate human resources base and relevant research facilities. One of the objectives of the Congress is establishing connections between all communities involved and laying foundations for revitalisation of the nuclear industry in our country.
